Apple iPad. What a pathetic letdown

It’s official, the iPad is a large iphone without the ability to make phone calls.

In the big demonstration they proudly showed iPad’s ability to run iPhone applications from the App store. Wow. A device several times larger and more powerful can run applications written for a palm-sized smartphone. Ooooooh. Can anyone say emulation?

There is little point in saying what it can do because if you have ever held an iPhone or an iPod touch then you pretty much have it down.

I think it is much more important to talk about what it cannot do.

You cannot sync with your Mac or PC over wi-fi.

I see no notice of handwriting recognition which on something the size of a pad would seem natural and intuitive.

You can’t multitask even between different browsing tabs in safari.

All that screen real estate can’t be used to dump documents, or have applications like twitter running in the background. I am just imagining what tweetdeck might have looked like on a screen this big.

Would it not have been obvious to put a camera facing front for video chat?

NO FLASH AGAIN!

As I read up on the specs and try and work out what this can and cannot do this list will probably grow.

Apple have not created a third category.

All they have done is taken the iPod touch and created a form factor for people with very large hands.
